How People Treat Each Other

I’ve spent a lot of time lately thinking about how we people treat each other. About how we talk about each other, how we don’t make or take the time to ask about simple things, let alone the big things.

I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that I’ve been hurt in the past by how I’ve been treated. Most people have. From the time that we start building our own relationships around the age of 3, we give people the power to hurt us, and to encourage us. We give them an incredible amount of responsibility to dictate how we see ourselves.

“I’ve learned that how people treat me is more a reflection of how they see themselves than how they see me.”

This week, I’m going to challenge myself to remember that quote. This week, and next week, and the week after. I’m going to take back the power to decide how I’m going to see myself. And I’m going to be more understanding about how people treat me – because whoever said that quote is right – its not about me. Its about them.

I really hate to disagree with such a wonderful and beautiful person, but you’re full of it.

Life is a balance between looking out for yourself and having an interest in the well being of others.

Well, that’s how I see it.

I think you need to treat others like you wish they’d treat you, but sometimes you need to be a raging bitch to protect yourself.

Else I’ll call you doormat Sally and start wiping my shoes on you.
